Movie Review: Keeper

Keeper is an interesting one. The publicists have gone out of their way to prevent any plot details about the film from getting out. Which, of course, makes it difficult to write about.

Because of this, I have decided not to reveal anything about the plot. The film is a slow burn… really slow burn. Very little happens until the last twenty minutes or so. It was a little too slow for me, personally. And when we got to the “reveal,” it wasn’t surprising.

One of the things that I liked was there is a complete lack of jump scares. There are scares, for sure, but they are subtle. So subtle that you have to really be paying attention. This is definitely a film you want to see in theaters, rather than at home, because glancing at your phone or playing with your dog could mean missing something.

And that’s all I’m saying about this film. Director Oz Perkins knows how to scare, and he tries something different with this one. I don’t know if it works 100% but let’s be honest: you are going to go see Oz Perkins’ newest film. Just don’t go in expecting too much.

Keeper hits theaters November 14th.
